Instructional Philosophy
Our Motto: Myrddin's objective is to produce confident and knowledgeable fully rounded horsepeople, in a safe and enjoyable atmosphere. Riders are encouraged to set their own personal goals and are fully supported by our qualified instructors, well-schooled and competitive horses, and extensive facilities. Myrddin does offer introductory classes; however, we specialize in taking riders beyond the knowledge and skills offered at most facilities. We have the ability to help you become a better rider.
There are 3 steps in a rider's development:
 |
The first stage is the period of familiarization with equine behaviour; basic equitation is taught, establishing a correct position, as well as aids on the flat and the introduction of jumping principles. Basic horsemanship skills are also taught at this level. This stage includes EC rider levels 1 to 3 and generally lasts one to two years. |
 |
The second stage further develops the rider's skills and partnership with the horse. It introduces and establishes the ability to ride a horse on the bit, to jump courses, and to ride cross-country. The horsemanship skills are expanded to include basic veterinary medicine, horse health, and conformation. During this period the rider can also start their competitive career and take on further responsibility through part-boarding and eventually purchasing their own horse. This stage includes EC rider levels 4 to 8. |
 |
The third stage is where riders develop their skills and ability to be able to compete on the provincial level; they can start to train and develop their own horses. At this time they are also ready to start coaching others. At the end of this phase, many equestrians become professionals. These are EC rider levels 9 and 10 and coaching levels 1 and 2. |
Myrddin specializes in taking riders from the middle of the second phase to the end of the third:
EC rider levels 5 - 10.
