January 7, 2012 - Lecture #1

1:00pm 1-3 Anatomy of a horse; basic parts, age, colour, markings
     
2:00pm 4-6 Evolution of Equus, Anatomy, basic selection, tendons, ligaments, foot care and shoeing
     
3:00pm 7+ Anatomy: legs & soundness. Corrective shoeing and use of studs.
     

January 21, 2012 - Lecture #2

Time: Levels: Topic:
     
1:00pm 1-3 Cleaning and grooming, hoof care, safety around horses, body language, braiding and trimming
     
2:00pm 4-6 Conformation and balance, soundness and common lameness's
     
3:00pm 7+ Body clipping: how to use clippers, main pulling, show trimming. Blanket and winter care.
     

February 4, 2012 - Lecture #3

Time: Levels: Topic:
     
1:00pm 1-3 Feeding, bedding, leading, correct safety knots. Make your horse's own feeding chart.
     
2:00pm 4-6 Digestive system, signs of colic. Turn out, paster management.
     
3:00pm 7+ In-depth feeding and how to make a conditioning schedule for horse and rider.
     

February 18, 2012 - Lecture #4

1:00pm 1-3 Tack: parts, fitting, adjustment & care.
     
2:00pm 4-6 Tack: different types of bits, purpose and actions, martingales, breastplates. Fitting of boots and polos, blanketing.
     
3:00pm 7+ See Lunging clinic
     

March 3, 2012 - Lecture #5

Time: Levels: Topic:
     
1:00pm 1-3 Analysis of Horse Gaits, rider's position, and use of aids on the flat, and jumping position.
     
2:00pm 4-6 Equitation principles: rider's position faults and corrections, understanding dressage terms, use of correct aids, jumping exercises and position.
     
3:00pm 7+ Advanced riding theory: advanced dressage movement with mounted demonstrations. Jumpin, course design. Gymnastic distances and progression.
     

March 17, 2012 - Lecture #6

Time: Levels: Topic:
     
1:00pm 1-3 Correct turnout procedures for horse and rider. Planning your warm-up and cool down.
     
2:00pm 4-6 Lunge clinic: $25 for 1/2 hour lungeing session.
